Craig Robinson is leaving the comedy world behind for what The Office alum says is “something huge.”
In Instagram posts – watch them below – Robinson announces that he’s retiring from comedy and teases that he intends to start a small business.
In the first video, Robinson, whose post-Office career includes roles on The Cleveland Show and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, says, “Just want you to hear it from me. I am quitting comedy, but not for nothing. It’s been an amazing run, and y’all been amazing and wonderful. But I’m following something bigger. So, you know, thank you so much. I love you, and stay tuned.”
In a subsequent video, Robinson, who played warehouse foreman Darryl Philbin in The Office, asks for advice on starting a small business, saying he’s hit a “few bumps in the road.” That video is captioned, “Turns out having a dream and building a business with your friends are two VERY different things. I can’t go into detail just yet, but for real though any help would be huge.”
“Big shoutout to all my small business owners,” Robinson says in the follow-up video. “Hey, you guys got any advice for me while I’m trying to get my business afloat?”
Whatever career path he chooses, Robinson has the support of some fellow comedians, including his Office cast mate Kate Flannery. She left a comment in the Instagram post saying, “We love you, craig!!! Go big, my friend!!!”
Other celebrities who left comments include Howie Mandel, who joked, “Being a dancer is tough, but go for it.” Arsenio Hall wrote, “You been called to preach? ‘If loving you is wroo0ng, – – – I don’t wanna be riiiiiight’!”
And David Arquette commented, “I hope it involves Music! You’re brilliant at whatever you chose to do.” (Robinson has played with the funk band The Nasty Delicious since 2007.)
