Prince Harry is expected to attend the Invictus Games 10th anniversary celebration in the UK this month, but reports suggest he’ll be making the trip without his wife Meghan Markle. This solo visit could stir up a mix of emotions for Harry, especially considering the significance of the venue.
The Invictus Games, a sporting event for wounded and ill veterans Harry founded in 2014, will hold its anniversary ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral in London. The cathedral holds a special place in Harry’s heart because it’s where his parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, married in 1981.
Royal commentator Charlotte Griffiths believes this combination of factors could make the visit challenging for Harry. “It’s a really important part of his history,” she said, speculating that he might have preferred to have Meghan and possibly even their children by his side for support.
Griffiths also suggests Harry’s visit might reignite feelings of isolation. “Without Meghan there, it could create a perception of him being alone,” she said, mentioning the ongoing strain between Harry and the Royal Family, the lack of close friends who might attend the event, and the potential absence of senior royals.
This upcoming trip comes after Harry and Meghan stepped back from their senior royal roles in 2020. The couple later made accusations of racism within the Royal Family during a televised interview. Currently, they reside in California with their two children.
