Chase Sui Wonders gave a little insight into Sony Pictures’ forthcoming relaunch of the I Know What You Did Last Summer universe, to bow in theaters July 18.
Speaking to People at SXSW, The Studio star said production on the sequel will soon wrap and that she had an “incredible” and “surreal” experience being on set with original film stars husband-and-wife duo Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar (who will not be in the remake), and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
“It’s really fun, and the cast is incredible,” she said. “We filmed partially in Australia and now we’re finishing up in L.A.”
The Bodies Bodies Bodies alumna also showered praise on director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, calling her a “genius.” She added of co-stars Prinze Jr. and Hewitt, who she said are “absolute legends and live up to all my expectations” that she had to “act with my contacts out, ‘cause I couldn’t focus while seeing them act in front of me.”
The original 1997 slasher follows four young friends (the aforementioned stars and Ryan Phillippe) and their tense reunion when one of them receives a threatening letter calling attention to the crime they had committed the year prior. This year’s follow-up will relaunch the series — after sequels in 1998 and 2006 — with an all-new cast featuring Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Haur-King, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols and Gabbriette.
