In a first for the popular mobile strategy game Clash of Clans, a real-life personality is joining the fray! Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is stepping onto the battlefield, not with cleats, but as a playable character. This month-long collaboration brings a football-themed twist to Clash of Clans, with Haaland taking the mantle of the powerful Barbarian King.
Clashers can choose to side with Haaland, recruiting the legendary striker to their village. Alternatively, they can unleash their inner rival (especially if they support a different team!) and raid Haaland’s village for exciting in-game rewards. This adds a fun twist to the usual gameplay, with the chance to conquer a champion both on and off the real-life football pitch.
The partnership wasn’t just a marketing ploy. It turns out Haaland himself has been a devoted Clash of Clans player for over a decade! He even reached out to Supercell, the Finnish developers behind the game, to propose the collaboration.
“Having Erling, a true fan of the game, approach us for a partnership was a dream come true,” says Stuart McGaw, general manager of Clash of Clans, expressing Supercell’s excitement.
Haaland’s passion for the game goes back to his childhood. He discovered Clash of Clans around the age of 10 and has been diligently building his own in-game village ever since. “I’ve been a huge fan for a long time,” says Haaland, “so to be an in-game character is incredible!”
The Haaland season kicks off today and runs until May 31st. Players who manage to defeat Haaland in battle will earn exclusive rewards and climb the leaderboards for ultimate bragging rights. So, whether you’re a die-hard Haaland fan or simply enjoy a strategic challenge, Clash of Clans’ football-themed event promises an exciting month of gameplay!
