Three-time Oscar nominee and Wicked star Cynthia Erivo‘s Edith’s Daughter shingle and Platinum Dunes is set to produce a feature adaptation of Adrian Tchaikovsky’s sci-fi action thriller Saturation Point for Universal Pictures.
Minnie Schedeen will adapt the screenplay. In Saturation Point, Dr. Jasmine Marks leads a search and rescue mission into ‘The Zone’, a section of rainforest along the equator with a climate inhospitable to intelligent life. As she pushes further into the wilderness, Dr Marks discovers the Zone is far deadlier than initially believed and not all forms of intelligent life are necessarily human…
Erivo and Solome Williams are producing through their Edith’s Daughter which has a first look deal at Universal.
Michael Bay and Brad Fuller are producing through their Platinum Dunes first look with Universal Pictures. Alex Ginno will executive produce and oversee the project for Platinum Dunes.
Universal Pictures’ Senior Vice President of Production Development Ryan Jones and Director of Production Development Christine Sun are shepherding the project.
Erivo launched Edith’s Daughter in August 2020 with the mission of developing stories that both normalizes and expresses the beauty of people who are often overlooked and underrepresented. As President of the shingle, Williams oversees all television, film, and unscripted development and production.
As the world knows, Erivo is coming back as Elphaba for Uni’s Wicked: For the Good on Nov. 21, the second half of the Jon M. Chu directed big screen take of the uber-Broadway musical smash. Wicked shattered box-office records, becoming the most successful Broadway musical adaptation of all time, earning almost $800 million worldwide. For her role as Elphaba, Erivo received Academy Award, Golden Globe, SAG, and BAFTA nominations for Best Actress. The film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won two Oscars for costume design and production design. Erivo guest starred in the first episode of Peacock’s second season of Poker Face. The actress is repped by UTA, Entertainment 360 and Peikoff Mahan. Bay is repped by Rich Cook at Range Media Partners. Fuller is repped by UTA and Sloane Offer Weber and Dern.
