EXCLUSIVE: Director and actress Joan Chen signs with Anonymous Content for management.
Chen can most recently be seen in Sean Wang’s DiDi, for which she was nominated for a Film Independent Spirit Award. She will next be seen in Andrew Ahn’s The Wedding Banquet, alongside Lily Gladstone and Bowen Yang, which releases theatrically on April 18. Following this, she will star in the Amazon MGM holiday comedy Oh. What. Fun., alongside Felicity Jones and Michelle Pfeiffer. It was recently announced that Chen will also star in the Netflix series “Remarkably Bright Creatures” alongside Sally Field.
Her career began with her winning the prestigious “Hundred Flowers Award” for Best Actress, China’s equivalent to an Oscar, during her teenage years. After moving to the U.S. at twenty, Chen earned rave reviews as the female-lead in Bernardo Bertolucci’s 9x Oscar winning film The Last Emperor and was part of the core cast of David Lynch’s Emmy-winning Twin Peaks. She then went on to direct films like Autumn in New York starring Winona Ryder and Richard Gere, and the critically acclaimed Chinese-language film Xiu Xiu: The Sent-Down-Girl.
She will continue to be represented by Stuart Rosenthal at GGSSC and Viewpoint PR.
