Lady Gaga Steals Netflix’s Tudum With ‘Wednesday’ Themed Performance

-

Lady Gaga, the one and only “monster queen,” rose out of her coffin to perform a rousing medley of tunes that were very much on-theme with Wednesday, closing out Netflix‘s Tudum with a nod to her newly confirmed cameo role in the highly anticipated second season of the Jenna Ortega YA drama.

The Emmy, Grammy and Oscar winner took the stage at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum following the premiere of the first six minutes of Wednesday Season 2, which also showcased new cast member Haley Joel Osment, who plays a serial killer infinitely more likely to be a victim than the eponymous macabre teen he has kidnapped.

Beginning her performance at the streamer’s annual event, Gaga stepped out from a vertical coffin amid a sea of background dancers dressed in the vein of Gomez Addams (Luis Guzmán), singing track “Zombieboy” off of her recently released Mayhem, critically acclaimed and largely viewed as a return to form of sorts for the pop/dance icon.

After shrugging off her coat and commandeering the stage in a black bodysuit, the consummate artist launched into the viral dance — limbs delightfully flailing — that first launched her involvement with the show, which stemmed from a social media video that supplanted The Cramps’ “Goo Goo Muck” with Gaga’s “Bloody Mary” in a scene featuring Ortega’s character’s uninhibited dancing (choreographed by the actress herself) during a function at her boarding school.

As the performance shifted its focus to a gang of Wednesdays, Ortega crossed the stage in character to sit at a full dining table filled with scrumptious spider webs and decapitated heads à la carte, allowing Gaga a costume change into an avant garde red velvet dress. She then capped off her medley with a rendition of crowd-pleaser “Abracadabra,” the second single off of Mayhem.

Ending her eight-minute performance to the jaunty Addams family theme, Gaga found her way back to the coffin, blowing a kiss to the audience as it closed to display the words: “Here lies the monster queen.”

Part 1 of the hit series’ second season will debut Aug. 6, with Part 2 following Sept. 3.
