Mexican Adaptation Of ‘Doc’ Series Coming With Juan Pablo Medina

-

EXCLUSIVE: Doc is on a roll. A Mexican adaptation of the hit medical drama is coming, with Juan Pablo Medina in the lead role. The Mexican series has also cast Gabriela de la Garza, Stephanie Cayo, Iván Sánchez, Erick Chapa, and Giuseppe Gamba.

The news comes on the heels of a Season 2 renewal from Fox for the U.S. version of Doc. Its premiere garnered over 16 million viewers making it the most-watched Fox series debut episode in over five years.

The U.S. adaptation, starring Molly Parker, is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Fox Entertainment Studios. SPT will produce and distribute the Mexican version. Deadline understands Sony will talk about the Mexican series during its LA Screenings presentation for buyers representing the LatAm region, which takes place today, May 20.

Doc is based on the hit Italian series, Doc – Nelle tue mani, which was created and is produced by Fremantle prodco Lux Vide. It airs on pubcaster Rai’s main channel and has become the most-viewed scripted series on Italian TV. Underlining its international bona fides, it has sold into more than 100 countries.

The Mexican adaptation will follow Andrés Ferrara (Juan Pablo Medina) as a head of internal medicine who loses his memory of the last twelve years after an assassination attempt. As he confronts a life he no longer recognizes, he must relearn vital lessons and fight to regain what matters most, with help – and occasional resistance – from family and colleagues.

Production is underway with Fran Franco, Andrés López and Harold Ariza the directors. SPT’s SVP & MD of Production for Latin America and US Hispanic, Coty Cagliolo, and VP and Head of Content and Production, Carlos Quintanilla Sakar, are exec producers alongside Alejandro García and Madelaine Contreras.

“Bringing globally successful IP like Doc, which has been a huge ratings success in the U.S., to local audiences is at the core of our strategy,” said John Rossiter, EVP, Distribution, Networks & Production, Latin America, SPT.

He added: “By adapting powerful, proven stories through a local lens, we are able to connect more deeply with audiences while strengthening our regional storytelling footprint. It’s about combining global scale with local relevance.”

SPT’s 2025 LA Screenings slate also includes: Jon Hamm drama American Hostage; Outlander prequel Outlander: Blood of My Blood; the BBC and Stan’s Lord of the Flies; Australian series Playing Gracie Darling; ITV’s true-crime drama The Lady; docu-drama Titanic Sinks Tonight; and Peacock comedy The Miniature Wife.
