ChatGPT-4o:In a move heating up the AI competition, OpenAI unveiled a desktop application for their popular chatbot, ChatGPT, alongside a significant upgrade. The new version, called GPT-4o, boasts faster processing and expanded capabilities in handling text, video, and audio formats.
OpenAI’s CTO, Mira Murati, announced at a livestreamed event that even free users will have access to GPT-4o, making it a major leap in accessibility for the San Francisco-based company. “This is a huge step forward in terms of user-friendliness,” Murati remarked.
Previously hinting at a “magical” release on social media, CEO Sam Altman seems to have delivered. Murati elaborated that GPT-4o is “much faster” and offers improved performance in handling text, video, and audio.
This upgrade reportedly brings a 50% improvement in speed and quality for different languages, according to a CNBC report citing Murati. Developers can also leverage the new model’s capabilities through OpenAI’s API, allowing them to integrate GPT-4o into their applications.
GPT-4o claims to be twice as fast as its predecessor, GPT-4 Turbo, while costing half the price.
OpenAI showcased the audio capabilities of the new model, with researchers demonstrating its ability to understand user emotions and adapt to interruptions. The model can even analyze a user’s facial expressions and potentially infer their feelings.
“Hey there, how can I brighten your day?” chirped the audio version of ChatGPT upon being greeted by a user.
OpenAI researchers further displayed GPT-4o’s storytelling prowess, prompting it to narrate a bedtime story and even modify its voice tone for dramatic or robotic effects.
Since its founding in 2015, OpenAI has garnered significant investor interest, reaching a valuation of over $80 billion. Their initial release of ChatGPT caused a stir in the tech world, and GPT-4o appears poised to continue that trend.
