Stephen Schwartz, ‘Wicked’ Composer & Lyricist, Signs With CAA

EXCLUSIVE: Stephen Schwartz, the famed composer and lyricist behind Wicked who’s recently been at work on the two-part film adaptation at Universal, has signed with CAA for representation.

With a distinguished career spanning decades, Schwartz is known for his work across musical theater and film, on titles like Wicked, Godspell, and Pippin. Other notable works include the scores for the classic animated films Pocahontas, The Prince of Egypt, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, as well as Disney’s Enchanted.

Released last fall, Jon M. Chu’s Wicked is the top-grossing film adaption of a Broadway show, having earned more than $750 million worldwide, with sequel Wicked: For Good coming up for release on November 21. In the last week of 2024, Wicked became the first Broadway show to gross over $5 million in one week. The stage production has been seen by more than 65 million people worldwide and has amassed over $5 billion in global sales.

Schwartz’s numerous accolades include three Grammys, three Academy Awards, and a Golden Globe. He has also been nominated for six Tony Awards and a Laurence Olivier Award. In 2015, he received the Tony Awards’ Isabelle Stevenson Award for his work with the ASCAP Foundation and service as president of the Dramatists Guild of America. He has been inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

This fall will see the Broadway premiere of Schwartz’s newest show, The Queen of Versailles, written with CAA client Lindsey Ferrentino, in a production directed by client Michael Arden and starring Kristin Chenoweth. Schwartz continues to be repped by attorney Nancy Rose at Schreck Rose Dapello.
