EXCLUSIVE: Jorge Dorantes, the co-creator, executive producer and co-showrunner of the upcoming Netflix series The Gringo Hunters, has signed with Vision Entertainment for management.
Expected to begin streaming later this year, The Gringo Hunters delves into the operations of the International Liaison Unit, a real-life elite Mexican police unit known for apprehending American fugitives who flee to Mexico. Based on an article by Kevin Sieff in The Washington Post, the show is also exec produced by Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, and Kristen Zolner for Imagine Entertainment and Stacy Perskie for Redrum.
Dorantes previously co-created The Chosen One for Netflix, based on Mark Millar’s hit comic book series American Jesus. Starring Diana Agron, the series made the Netflix Top 10 in 44 countries. Dorantes’ comedy series El Vato, produced by NBC Universo and Netflix, won an International Emmy in 2018. He previously co-created the series Nicky Jam: El Ganador, a biopic of the famous urban singer for Netflix.
Dorantes started off writing fiction and published a novel titled Nada que ver (Nothing to See) in 2001. Then, he turned to screenwriting and worked as head writer on Ya es mediodía en China (It’s Noon in China), the first pan-regional late show produced for Latin America by Sony Pictures Television. The creative is a partner at Redrum Films, one of Latin America’s leading production companies, with credits like Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Bardo, Get the Gringo starring Mel Gibson, Sicario, Bond film Spectre, and Narcos: Mexico, starring Diego Luna and Michael Peña.
“We’re thrilled to have Jorge joining the Vision family,” said Vision co-founder Andres Budnik. “Jorge is one of the most exciting voices in both film and television right now. His body of work speaks for itself. We look forward to championing his work and helping to launch the next phase of his career.”
Said Dorantes in a statement to Deadline, “I’m so happy to be joining forces with the team at Vision. It means the world to have a team that genuinely believes in the stories I want to tell. I’m excited for the road ahead and can’t wait to start building with them.”
