EXCLUSIVE: Verve has signed New York Times bestselling author E. Lockhart for representation. In addition to working with Lockhart on book-to-screen opportunities, the agency will rep her screenwriting career separate from her literary work.
Currently, Lockhart is exec producing and writing on Prime Video’s #1 series We Were Liars, based on her 2014 YA novel of the same name, having written the Season 1 finale.
We Were Liars centers on Cadence Sinclair, a teenage girl from a wealthy family who has spent her summers on a private island off the coast of Massachusetts. Cadence is recovering from a mysterious injury she sustained during the summer prior, and suffers from amnesia, unable to remember the events leading up to the accident. As she revisits the island and the people she once loved, she slowly uncovers the truth about what happened, as well as the dark secrets her family has been hiding.
We Were Liars won the Goodreads Choice Award and was Amazon’s #1 YA novel of 2014, before blowing up as a TikTok phenomenon in 2021. It’s part of a three-book universe that also includes Family of Liars and a third novel, We Fell Apart, which comes out this November.
Lockhart’s other novels include The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks, which was a Printz Award honor book and a finalist for the National Book Award, and Genuine Fraud, which was a Los Angeles Times book prize finalist. Lockhart also created a superhero for DC Comics, via the graphic novel Whistle: A New Gotham City Hero.
Lockhart continues to be represented by Anonymous Content and publishing agent Elizabeth Kaplan.
