Whoopi Goldberg was away from The View this week and vacationing in Italy, and now it looks like she might be spending more time there than usual: She announced today she’s landed a multi-episode role on Italian soap opera Un Posto Al Sole.
In an Instagram video posted today, Goldberg, with a scenic view of the Italian coastline behind her, said, “I just wanted to stop in and say how happy I am to be joining the cast of Un Posto Al Sole. They know it’s a crazy idea, I know it’s a crazy idea, but what a wonderful thing to do. I’m looking forward to it. I’m excited.”
Goldberg ends the brief video by noting, “No, my Italian is not perfect, but we’ve worked it out. Ciao! See you on TV.”

Un Posto Al Sole has been broadcast on Rai 3 since 1996 and is the first soap opera entirely produced in Italy. Set in Naples, the soap follows the lives, trials and tribulations of the inhabitants of Palazzo Palladini, a condominium on the Neapolitan hill of Posillipo.
No details yet on Goldberg’s role, but a short note from Freemantle accompanying the video states that the character will be “part of a special storyline and will appear in multiple episodes in 2026.
Goldberg is a frequent visitor to Italy, vacationing there when getting time away from her moderating duties on ABC’s The View. Earlier this week, co-host Joy Behar explained Goldberg’s absence by saying she was in Italy but didn’t spoil today’s announcement.
