Elon Musk Calls GPT-4o “Cringe” : In a move sure to spark further debate, Elon Musk, a vocal critic of OpenAI despite being a co-founder, labeled their recent demo showcasing the new GPT-4o language model as “Cringe.” This criticism comes amidst concerns raised by author Ashley St. Clair on X, who expressed anxieties that OpenAI’s advancements could usher in an era even more troubling than the current “post-truth” landscape, with AI interpreting reality for humans in real-time.
Musk’s comment adds another layer to the ongoing tension between him and OpenAI. After leaving the organization, he filed a lawsuit against them and CEO Sam Altman in March, alleging a breach of their initial agreements on the direction of AI development. OpenAI responded with a countersuit, claiming Musk sought a merger with Tesla or complete control over OpenAI.
Despite the controversy, OpenAI unveiled GPT-4o at a livestreamed event. This successor to GPT-4 boasts significant speed improvements and enhanced capabilities across text, voice, and vision processing. Additionally, ChatGPT, a product built on OpenAI’s technology, now supports over 50 languages
