Imran Khan refuses to apologize for the 9 May :Imran Khan stands firm, refusing to yield to pressure from the military in the aftermath of the May 9 events. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman maintains his stance, rejecting calls for an apology and instead demanding one himself.
In a candid exchange with reporters at Adiala Jail, Imran asserts, “Why should I be the one to apologize? The apology should be directed towards me.” Despite facing multiple charges, including corruption and breaches of the Official Secrets Act, Imran remains resolute.
His defiance follows a stern press conference by the Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), where dialogue was urged only upon repentance for the violent protests and renunciation of anarchic politics. The military spokesperson categorically dismisses dialogue with those who targeted military installations and dishonored the nation’s martyrs, emphasizing legal consequences for those involved in the May 9 events.
Imran expresses readiness for an inquiry into his party’s 2014 sit-in, dismissing allegations as false. He also questions the feasibility of negotiations with the federal government, citing former caretaker prime minister Anwarul Haq Kakar’s reference to Form-47 during a confrontation over the wheat scandal.
In critiquing the electoral processes, Imran alleges fraudulent practices in various elections and asserts that private conversations with PML-N members reveal their belief that electoral outcomes are contingent on certain judicial appointments.
Asserting familial ties to both the army and bureaucracy, Imran emphasizes unity, stating, “The army belongs to us, and we have no conflicts with it.” He distances himself from the May 9 events, claiming ignorance until his appearance in the Supreme Court, where he condemned the incidents before the then chief justice.
In a plea to keep the army out of politics, Imran khan emphasizes his party’s history of avoiding agitation, citing the dissolution of two governments as evidence of their commitment to orderly political processes.
