A free concert to honor first responders at the Hollywood Bowl next month will appropriately feature John Williams classic “Superman March.”
The L.A. Philharmonic announced programming details today for We Love L.A., an April 1 free concert meant to thank those who fought January’s wildfires and provide a night of enjoyment for community members who were impacted. It will feature not just Williams’ music, but also the Palisades Charter High School Band playing the National Anthem.
Music and Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel will lead the philharmonic and special guests in a program featuring the music of close L.A. Phil collaborators Williams and Gabriela Ortiz alongside selections from Mahler, Gershwin, the popular canon and more.
The concert will begin at 8 p.m. and proceed as follows:
— National Anthem, Palisades Charter High School Band
— “Kauyumari,” Gabriela Ortiz
— “Adagietto from Symphony No. 5,” Mahler
— “I Got Rhythm” variations (George Gershwin), Gerald Clayton, piano
— Intermission
— “Superman March,” John Williams
— Theme from Jurassic Park, John Williams
— Three selections from Harry Potter, John Williams
— Two selections from Star Wars, John Williams
