EXCLUSIVE: FX has given a pilot order to Seven Sisters, a drama starring Elizabeth Olsen (Love and Death, His Three Daughters). It comes from executive producers Will Arbery (Succession, Irma Vep), who wrote the pilot; Sean Durkin (The Iron Claw, Dead Ringers), who will direct it; and Garrett Basch (What We Do in the Shadows, Ripley).
Seven Sisters reunites Olsen and Durkin a decade and a half after the award-winning 2011 movie Martha Marcy May Marlene, written and directed by Durkin in his feature directorial debut, which starred Olsen in her film debut.
In Seven Sisters, from FX Productions, a large, tight-knit family begins to unravel when a sister (Olsen) starts communing with a voice no one else can hear —f orcing each of them to confront long-buried secrets.
If the pilot goes forward, it would mark Basch’s fifth series for FX, where his company Dive has a longstanding first-look deal, following Devs, Reservation Dogs, What We Do In the Shadows and Sterlin Harjo’s upcoming Tulsa noir drama starring Ethan Hawke. He most recently executive produced Ripley for Netflix, Time Bandits for Apple TV+ and Interior Chinatown for Hulu. Basch’s recent feature credits include Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins and the upcoming Klara and the Sun.
Arbery, a playwright and screenwriter from Texas, wrote for HBO’s Succession, for which he won the WGA Award for Episodic Drama. He co-wrote the screenplay for the upcoming film Sacrifice, directed by Romain Gavras and starring Chris Evans and Anya Taylor Joy. As a playwright, he is known for Heroes of the Fourth Turning, which was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. Arbery is repped by CAA, Range, and Ziffren Brittenham.
Durkin most recently wrote, directed, and produced The Iron Claw for A24, which won at The 95th National Board of Review Awards. He is set to adapt and direct Deep Cuts for A24, starring Saoirse Ronan and Austin Butler. Durkin is repped by UTA, Management 360, and Nelson Davis.
Olsen will next star alongside Alicia Vikander in Fleur Fortuné’s feature length directorial debut, The Assessment, which premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and was acquired by Magnolia Pictures. She also will also star alongside Miles Teller and Callum Turner in the A24 romantic comedy, Eternity, on which she also serves as an executive producer. Currently, Olsen is in production on the Warner Brothers thriller Panic Carefully, opposite Julia Roberts and directed by Sam Esmail. She is repped by Brillstein Entertainment Partners, CAA, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
