Percy Jackson And The Olympians Renewed For Season 3 At Disney+

-

Percy Jackson and the Olympians has received a very early Season 3 renewal.

The series is currently in production on its second season, which is slated to debut in December. Season 3 will focus on the third book in Rick Riordan’s best-selling series, The Titan’s Curse.

“We’re so grateful to be continuing the story of Percy Jackson on Disney+. This third season will be new territory for the screen, bringing fan favorites like the Hunters of Artemis and Nico di Angelo to life for the first time,” Rick Riordan said in a statement Friday. “It’s a huge sign of commitment from Disney, and speaks volumes about the enthusiasm with which the fandom has embraced the TV show. Thank you, demigods worldwide!”

While this is an early renewal, it makes sense given Disney is likely looking to expedite further seasons to accommodate the ages of their leads, Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri. Riordan has already expressed his desire to tell each book’s story in one season of television. With that in mind, lengthy gaps between seasons would potentially put the series in a scenario where their stars are much older than the characters they are portraying.

Season 3 will also come with its own exciting casting announcements, including that of Nico di Angelo and Bianca di Angelo, who are children of Hades.

The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians performed quite well on Disney+ and, per Nielsen, was one of the top five most-watched original series across all of streaming the week that it launched.

Season 2 will follow Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood as they embark on a new adventure based on The Sea of Monsters. Production on Season 2 just in Vancouver in August.

In the new season, Percy Jackson returns to Camp Half-Blood one year later to find his world turned upside down. His friendship with Annabeth is changing, he learns he has a cyclops for a brother, Grover has gone missing, and camp is under siege from the forces of Kronos. Percy’s journey to set things right will take him off the map and into the deadly Sea of Monsters, where a secret fate awaits the son of Poseidon.

Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri are returning as the main trio, with Charlie Bushnell and Dior Goodjohn also returning as series regulars. New recurring characters include Tamara Smart as Thalia Grace, daughter of Zeus, and Daniel Diemer as Percy’s half brother Tyson.

It was also previously announced that Courtney B. Vance will take over the role of Zeus from Lance Reddick, who died shortly after the first season was released.
