Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth topped a ranking compiled by digital outlet Fandango of moviegoers’ most-anticipated releases of summer 2025.
The rest of the Top 10 films are, in order: The Fantastic Four: First Steps; Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning; Superman; Thunderbolts*; From The World of John Wick: Ballerina; 28 Years Later; How to Train Your Dragon; Lilo & Stitch; and Freakier Friday.
The rankings are part of a broader report on exhibition released on the eve of CinemaCon, the movie theater industry’s major annual trade show in Las Vegas.
Along with gauging interest in specific summer titles, Fandango (a division of NBCUniversal that will soon be part of a spinoff from Comcast of cable and digital assets) surveyed moviegoers about a range of habits and opinions. More than 5,000 people who had bought at least one ticket to a movie theater showing since January 2024 took part in the study in December 2024.
About 80% of respondents were between 18 to 54 years old, with 51% identifying as male, 47% female, and 2% non-binary. In all, 45% described themselves as Caucasian; 42% Latinx/Hispanic; 18% Black/African American; 5% Asian/Pacific Islander; and 2% other. Some respondents identified with multiple ethnicities. Additional information on the Top 10 most-anticipated summer movies and overall summer sentiment was obtained via a supplemental survey of more than 3,000 moviegoers conducted in February 2025.
While revenue and attendance trends point to ongoing struggles for the industry to return to anywhere near pre-Covid levels, the Fandango report offers reason for hope. With major theater circuits forecasting a higher number of total wide releases in 2025 than there were in 2024, attendance could also see a lift. as 88% of moviegoers expect to see more movies this year.
Premium large format screenings continue to be a driver, with 77% of survey respondents saying they attended at least one PLF showing this past year, up 6% from the prior year.
Summer remains the most popular season of the year for going to the movies, but Christmas Day is the top pick for 33% of moviegoers asked for their preferred day for heading to the multiplex.
