EXCLUSIVE: Kate Hollowell, the Sundance award-winning multi-hyphenate creator, is coming on board to direct Something Murdered for Amblin Entertainment. The project is an original idea written by Liz Benham that Amblin picked up last year.
Hollowell will rewrite to direct as a feature. Amblin is producing alongside Chad Villella, with Benham, Tyler Gillett and Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin executive producing. Plot details are unknown at this time.
Hollowell’s short film Say Hi After You Die, which she directed, wrote, and starred in, won the Sundance Short Film Jury Award, was nominated for the SXSW Grand Jury Prize and won the Best Director Award at HollyShorts. She is also a top commercial and music video director, nominated for several awards, including the Cannes Lion Young Director Award. Beyond film, she has made waves in both music and theater, most notably with her music project Number One Popstar and her one-woman comedy show A Hero’s Journey.
Benham got her start writing and directing her own sketches and shorts, tallying over 15 million views. Her work has been featured in articles by HuffPost Comedy, Glamour, WhoHaHa, HelloGiggles, and BroBible, and has appeared on TV shows like Right This Minute (ABC), Laughs (Fox), and The Daily Buzz (Hulu). Liz graduated from UCB’s Improv program and has expanded her writing into features and television.
