Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has been set for a Cannes Film Festival launch.
As we reported yesterday, the film’s presence had been a distinct possibility but now it’s confirmed by the festival.
The film’s May 21 opening in France is during the second week of the festival and Tom Cruise has a strong history with Cannes with Top Gun: Maverick launching as a hit launch for the actor and Paramount three years ago.
Final Reckoning will see Cruise reunite with director Christopher McQuarrie from a screenplay he wrote with Erik Jendresen. It’s the eighth instalment in the Mission series. Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, Angela Bassett, and Rolf Saxon reprise their roles.
Cruise will be in London in the days before the Cannes Film Festival to collect a BFI Fellowship and take part in a Q&A event. The film icon was at CinemaCon this week to show footage of Final Reckoning and held a moment of remembrance for his late Top Gun co-star Val Kilmer.
Juliette Binoche will preside over the Cannes Competition. The festival runs 13 May 2025 – Sat, 24 May 2025.
