EXCLUSIVE: Top Fabel Entertainment executive Melissa Aouate is joining Blumhouse Television as President. She will oversee the creative team for the company’s scripted television division.
The Blumhouse Television President post had been vacant since the October 2023 exit of Chris McCumber, with Blumhouse brass taking their time with the executive search. Aouate will work alongside Head of Alternative Television Gretchen Palek, who will continue to oversee television division’s unscripted department, and Rob Hackett, who continues as the Head of Television for Atomic Monster, which operates as its own label within Blumhouse.
Aouate joins Blumhouse from independent production company Fabel Entertainment, where she spent the last 11 years, most recently as President and Partner. Fabel is behind the Harry Bosch universe for Amazon, which includes seven seasons of Bosch for Prime Video — the streamer’s longest-running original series — four seasons of Bosch: Legacy on Amazon FreeVee/Prime Video, and the upcoming spinoff series Ballard on Prime Video. The company also has produced Interrogation for CBS All Access and freshman NBC drama series Brilliant Minds.
Prior to Fabel, Aouate was a literary agent at ICM Partners and a film and television executive at Robert Zemeckis’ ImageMovers.
“We’re incredibly fortunate to have found Melissa to lead Blumhouse’s scripted television division,” said Blumhouse President Abhijay Prakash. “Melissa brings exceptional taste and an impressive track record of success with both edgy and mainstream fare, and as we continue to grow and sustain our slate of ongoing scripted series. I’m thrilled to welcome her to Blumhouse.”
Blumhouse Television’s current slate includes The Bondsman starring Kevin Bacon, which recently launched on Prime Video, and the upcoming Scarpetta series, also for Prime Video, starring Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis. The company’s scripted series credits also include the Peabody Award-winning The Good Lord Bird for Showtime and the Emmy-nominated limited series Sharp Objects for HBO.
“Blumhouse has built one of the most innovative brands in film with bold, visceral storytelling that resonates with all kinds of audiences,” Aouate said. “It’s a big tent that prioritizes creative risk-taking and always puts the viewer first. I couldn’t be more excited to lead the effort to expand on that sensibility for television.”
