EXCLUSIVE: The hit USA Network series Royal Pains is getting a reboot at NBC with star Mark Feuerstein set to reprise the leading role of Dr. Henry “Hank” Lawson and will executive produce, sources tell Deadline. We hear no other original cast members are currently attached to return.
Part of the original creative team will reunite on the new drama project, including Andrew Lenchewski and Michael Rauch as writers and executive producers. Lenchewski served as co-creator, writer and executive producer of the original series, while Rauch was a writer, director and EP. Rich Frank will again executive produce. UCP, a division of Universal Studios Group, is the studio.
Royal Pains ran for eight seasons from 2009-2016 during USA Network’s popular “Blue Sky” era, which also saw the release of shows like Psych, Suits, Burn Notice, Covert Affairs, Monk and White Collar. The series follows Hank (Feuerstein), a former New York ER doctor, as he embarks on a new adventure with his own concierge practice in the Hamptons, where he mostly caters to wealthy patients.
The NBC project is set several years later and finds Hank, searching for a new purpose in life, about to embark on his biggest project yet.
The original cast included Paulo Costanzo, Reshma Shetty, Jill Flint, Campbell Scott and Brooke D’Orsay, among others.
NBC’s development announcement for Royal Pains follows the release of Suits LA, a continuation of the original USA Network series with creator Aaron Korsh back in the saddle. The new series starring Stephen Amell, Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, Bryan Greenberg, and Troy Winbush is currently airing its first season, with a Season 2 renewal pending.
The network’s streaming sister Peacock has expanded on other USA Blue Sky IP including Psych with the release of two movies: Psych 2: Lassie Come Home and Psych 3: This Is Gus; and Monk‘s first movie, Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie, released in 2023. There have been discussions about expanding the Psych and Monk universes further, considering the success of their streaming projects.
A reboot of the series White Collar, which helped launch Matt Bomer’s acting career, from OG creator Jeff Eastin, has been on the marketplace since February. The project is produced by 20th Television, part of Disney TV Studios. Initially, sibling Hulu was considered the logical home for the follow-up, as it also carries the White Collar library; however, the Disney streamer opted not to proceed with the reboot. Bomer and his co-stars Tim DeKay and Tiffani Thiessen are expected to reprise their roles should the series come to fruition, even if some are not formally attached yet.
