EXCLUSIVE: Ali Afshar’s ESX Entertainment has added Lou Diamond Phillips to Casa Grande: The Movie which is the feature to the original Amazon Prime Video 2023 series.
Casa Grande explores the intertwining lives of Northern California farmland families at the turn of the century, with an upstairs/downstairs take on themes of class, immigration, culture, and family. The movie continues the journey of the Clarkmans and the Morales families who continue to battle and love over the land. The series was reated by Lauren Swickard, Ava Rettke and Afshar. The movie is written by Juan Pablo Arias Muños, Swickard, Sherell Jackson and Alex Ranarivelo.
The La Bamba actor joins a cast that includes Madison Lawlor, John Pyper Ferguson, Christina Moore, Javier Bolanos, Lauren Escandon, Daniel Mora, Kate Mansi as well as new additions Lauren Swickard and Shalim Ortiz!

Phillips’s feature credits include Stand and Deliver, Young Guns, Courage Under Fire, Filly Brown and The Big Hit with Mark Wahlberg. The 2x Emmy nominated and Golden Globe nominee’s series credits include Prodigal Son, Longmire, SGU: Stargate Universe, Wolf Lake and recurring roles on Goliath with Billy Bob Thorton, Numb3rs, The Ranch, Brooklyn 99, and Blue Blood. He will next be seen in the HBO comedy The Chair Company premiering this year.
Phillips earned a Tony nomination for Best Actor for his role as the King in the Broadway revival of The King and I. He won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actor for Stand And Deliver.
