EXCLUSIVE: Baby Monster Media has acquired world sales rights for documentary Uncle George: The Music Man about Chicago music scene legend George Daniels.
The Los Angeles-based sales agent, production entity and distribution company will introduce the work to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival’s Marché du Film.
The documentary shines a spotlight on “unsung hero” Daniels, the iconic music retailer and cultural gatekeeper behind George’s Music Room in Chicago, which for more than 50 years served as a “must-stop” destination for recording artists, music executives, and fans alike.
From Beyoncé to rapper Common, he supported generations of talent, often before they became household names. The film captures how his advocacy, industry savvy, and unapologetic style helped elevate Black-owned music retail and transform careers.
The work features a host of performers who benefited from Daniel’s support including Common, Akon, Mathew Knowles, Deon Cole, Daymond John, LisaRaye McCoy, Paula Newsome, and A.J. Calloway—with narration by radio personality and former rapper Jonathan “Sway” Calloway.
Sales are being handled by Baby Monster Media’s Franzi Schissler and Justin Price.
“We’re honored to represent a film as vital and emotionally rich as Uncle George: The Music Man,” said Baby Monster Media CEO Franzi Schissler. “It’s a powerful tribute to a legend who helped shape the sound of a generation.”
The documentary is produced by Robstar Entertainment, with production led by director Pamela J. Richardson and produced by Robin Thompson, Craig Thompson, Jana Braxton, George Daniels, Alvin Franklin, Chef Sean, and Almen Jones.
