EXCLUSIVE: Lisa Rinna has optioned Jane L. Rosen‘s novel, A Shoe Story, for development through her company Mrs. Productions Inc. This is Rinna’s first foray into scripted development, and first book option under her shingle.
Released in June 2022, the novel follows Esme Nash, a young woman who has one month and a closetful of shoes to discover the future she thought she’d lost. After giving up her dreams to care for her father after a tragic accident, Esme, seven years later, is offered a dog-sitting job in Greenwich Village by a mysterious stranger, giving her access to all of her long-buried hopes and dreams — as well as to an epic collection of designer shoes. Esme jumps at a second chance to step into the future she’s sure was meant to be hers. As she retraces her steps, one pair of borrowed shoes at a time, making new friends and reconnecting with her old love, Esme tries on versions of herself she didn’t know existed. But the hazy August days and warm summer nights pass too quickly, and Esme must decide how much of the life she imagined still fits, and what — and who — is on the road ahead of her.
“I remember being the girl from a small town who dreamed about a bigger life in a bigger city,” Rinna told Deadline. “A SHOE STORY captures the magic of that self-discovery journey with a bit of magical sparkle, a lot of heart and a ton of fabulous fashion. It fit me like a perfect pair of shoes.”
In her own statement, Rosen said, “I’m thrilled that Lisa Rinna has optioned A Shoe Story. Her energy, creativity, and bold spirit are a perfect match for this project, and I can’t wait to see where she takes it.”
Rosen is an author, screenwriter and newspaper columnist who divides her time between Fire Island and The Hudson Valley. Aside from A Shoe Story, she has written six novels including Nine Women, One Dress and Eliza Starts a Rumor. The latest in her Fire Island trilogy, Songs of Summer, debuts May 20.
An actress, entrepreneur and bestselling author, Rinna is a veteran of series including Days of Our Lives, Melrose Place, and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She’s also recently appeared on FX’s American Horror Stories, NBC’s Lopez vs Lopez, and CBS’s So Help Me Todd, and exec produced and starred in the Lifetime film Mommy Meanest. The co-host of podcast Let’s Not Talk About the Husband, alongside husband Harry Hamlin, Rinna is repped by Industry Entertainment, UTA, and Brecheen, Feldman, Breimer.
