Foo Fighters have parted ways with their drummer, Josh Freese, the musician said on social media.
Freese took to Instagram to share that he would no longer be performing with the band led by Dave Grohl, and he was not given a clear explanation.
“The Foo Fighters called me Monday night to let me know they’ve decided ‘to go in a different direction with their drummer.’ No reason was given,” Freese shared.
Despite being removed, Freese says he “enjoyed the past two years” with the band, “both on and off stage,” supporting the group with “whatever they feel is best” for them.
“In my 40 years of drumming professionally, I’ve never been let go from a band,” he continued. “So while I’m not angry-just a bit shocked and disappointed. But as most of you know I’ve always worked freelance and bounced between bands so, I’m fine.”
Freese has been a member of the punk rock band the Vandals since 1989 and a member of the new wave band Devo since 1996. The drummer has also worked with hard rock band Guns N’ Roses and alternative rock band A Perfect Circle. He joined Foo Fighters in 2023.
Other bands that Freese has worked with include The Damning Well, Black Light Burns, Nine Inch Nails, and Sublime with Rome.
Current members of the Foo Fighters band include Grohl on lead vocals and guitar, Pat Smear (guitar), Chris Shiflett (guitar and backing vocals), Nate Mendel (bass), and Rami Jaffee (keyboards and piano).
The Foo Fighters are not currently touring and their website notes that their next live appearance is scheduled for October 4 where they will perform at the Formula 1 in the Singapore Grand Prix.
