Former President Joe Biden posted his first comment since his office revealed that he has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
Biden posted on X, “Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”
On Sunday, his office announced that he “was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” the statement said. “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management.”
Throughout his career, Biden has shared his own experiences recovering from tragedy and health crises. Shortly after he was first elected to the Senate in 1972, his wife and daughter were killed in a traffic accident. Biden suffered two life-threatening aneurysms in 1988, after he had ended his first presidential campaign. Biden’s son Beau died of a glioblastoma brain tumor in 2015.
Since the announcement, Biden has received numerous messages from major political figures, including his main rival, Donald Trump. Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
