Paramount Pictures has won the rights to Rebecca Ross’ fantacy romance novel Divine Rivals in a highly competitive, multi-studio bidding war, we can confirm.
Sofia Alvarez, scribe behind the first two To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before films, based on the books by Jenny Han, will write the film adaptation’s script for the studio. Alvarez made her directorial debut with the Netflix film adaptation of Sarah Dessen’s Along for the Ride starring Emma Pasarow and Belmont Cameli.
The first book in the Letters of Enchantment Series arrived April 2023 followed by its sequel, Ruthless Vows, in December the same year.
The film’s logline reads: “In the shadow of an ancient war between dueling gods, a pair of rival journalists fall in love while writing each other anonymous letters on an enchanted typewriter.”
Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing as part of his first-look deal with the studio, alongside Pouya Shahbazian, who worked on the Divergent (2014) and Allegiant (2016) films. Author Rebecca Ross will executive produce.
The Letters of Enchantment series has spent over 125 weeks on The New York Times bestsellers list, is a Goodreads Choice Awards winner, and has sold over one million copies. Rebecca Ross’s works — which also include A River Enchanted, A Fire Endless, The Queen’s Resistance — have been translated into 27 languages. Her next novel. A Wild Reverance, arrives Sept. 2, 2025.
Divine Rivals captured the attention of BookTok, where passionate fan engagement and viral content helped propel the novel to breakout success across social platforms.
