Martin Scorsese will be back to tell more saintly tales. Fox Nation said today that the Oscar-winning filmmaker is returning for Season 2 of its docudrama series Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints, whose eight episodes will begin in November.
“For many years, I dreamed of telling stories of the lives of the saints,” said Scorsese, who hosts, narrates and executive produces the series. “It’s been an obsession of mine for as long as I can remember. So the chance to do this series meant the world to me, and it’s heartening to know that people have responded to it. I’m very excited to be coming back for a second season.”
Created by Matti Leshem and developed by Scorsese for Lionsgate Alternative Television, the show’s focuses on a singular saint per episode. Season 2 will tell the stories of Saint Mary the Virgin, Saint Peter, Saint Carlo Acutis, Saint Patrick, Saint Paul, Saint Longinus, Saint Lucia and Saint Thomas Becket. Scorsese explores their lives and their acts of kindness, selflessness and sacrifice.
Season 1 of The Saints broke viewership records for Fox’s streamer and stands as its most watched series ever.
The show’s sophomore run will begin in November, with four episodes rolling out weekly. The final four will premiere in May to coincide with the Holy season.
Written by frequent Scorsese collaborator Kent Jones, Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints was directed by Matti Leshem and Elizabeth Chomko in Season 1. Additional executive producers alongside Scorsese and Leshem include Craig Piligian, Julie Yorn, Rick Yorn and Christopher Donnelly. Along with Lionsgate, the series is produced by Sikelia Productions, Weimaraner Republic Pictures and LBI Entertainment.
