The History Channel is revisiting one of its most popular titles, the 2013 limited series The Bible, with a new nonfiction event series. Tentatively titled The Bible Revealed, the followup, from A+E Factual Studios, will mirror its scripted predecessor’s 10-episode length.
Through expert commentary from scholars and theologians, the series explores the foundational biblical events — such as the Great Flood, the Ten Plagues, and the Garden of Eden — through theological tradition, scientific inquiry and cultural resonance. From the mysteries of Genesis to the epic of Exodus, The Bible Revealed examines the enduring stories in an immersive way.
“The Bible Revealed reaffirms our mission to tell globally significant stories with depth and integrity and this series offers an opportunity to revisit these powerful stories in a fresh, compelling way for both long-time viewers and new generations,” said Eli Lehrer, EVP & Head of Programming, The History Channel. “We are proud to continue our legacy of producing premium documentary programming that explores the texts and traditions that have shaped our world. This is storytelling with reverence, scale, and vision—exactly the kind of project our audiences expect from us.”
The 2013 scripted limited series The Bible, created and executive produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, became a ratings and cultural phenomenon, opening with 13 million viewers on premiere night and never dipping below 10 million watching each episode live on air.
History, which, like most basic cable networks, no longer is in the original scripted business, most recently launched new docu-series Kevin Costner’s The West.
A+E Global Media holds worldwide distribution rights to The Bible Revealed.
