Apple TV+ has greenlighted I’m Glad My Mom Died, a dramedy inspired by Jennette McCurdy’s bestselling memoir of the same name with Jennifer Aniston set to star and executive produce.
The casting inevitably brings up questions about the future of Aniston’s popular Apple TV+ drama series The Morning Show, which she also stars in and executive produces. The Morning Show is currently picked up through Season 4, which is set to premiere Sept. 17. Aniston’s involvement in I’m Glad My Mom Died is not expected to impact her ability to continue to star alongside Reese Witherspoon should The Morning Show get a fifth season, sources said.
Hailing from Apple Studios, the 10-episode I’m Glad My Mom Died is written, executive produced, and showrun by child actor-turned-writer McCurdy and Ari Katcher (Ramy, Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show).
In addition to Aniston, McCurdy and Katcher, the series’ executive producers/production entities include Sharon Horgan’s Merman, which is behind Apple TV+’s Bad Sisters, LuckyChap, Jerrod Carmichael and Erica Kay.
I’m Glad My Mom Died is a heartbreaking and funny recounting of Jennette McCurdy’s struggles as a former child actor while dealing with her overbearing, domineering mother. The dramedy will center on the codependent relationship between an 18-year-old actress in a hit kid’s show, and her narcissistic mother (Aniston) who relishes in her identity as “a starlet’s mother.”
McCurdy rose to fame with her role as Sam Puckett on the Nickelodeon sitcom iCarly, which she reprised on the spinoff series Sam & Cat.
The full list of I’m Glad My Mom Died‘s executive producers include McCurdy, Katcher, Aniston via Echo Films; Horgan and Stacy Greenberg for Merman, Dani Gorin, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara for LuckyChap; Carmichael and Kay.
