There will be no Dr. Collins in Season 2 of The Pitt. Tracy Icheafor, who portrayed Dr. Collins, won’t be returning for the second season of the hit HBO Max medical drama, Deadline has confirmed.
Dr. Collins is a fourth-year resident at a teaching hospital in season one and will not be at the shift in season two, we’ve learned. The news was first reported by Deadline’s sister pub TVLine.
The confirmation comes one day after Icheafor posted a slightly cryptic message on Instagram, saying “what a blessing” it was to be a participant on the first season, calling it an “absolute privilege to play Dr. Heather Collins in such a groundbreaking season and piece.” She made no mention of a second season.
Created by R. Scott Gemmill, the series follows Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch’s (Noah Wyle) 15-hour shift as the chief attendant in the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital’s emergency room. Each episode is one hour in Robby’s frenetic day.
Per the logline, The Pitt is a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh.
In addition to Wyle and Icheafor, Season 1 cast included Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell and Shabana Azeez.
Since its debut, the critically acclaimed series has stayed among the top three of the streamer’s most-watched titles globally, including a 95% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Pitt is produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, where JWP is under an overall deal. Gemmill created the drama and executive produces the series alongside Wells, Wyle, Michael Hissrich, JWP’s Erin Jontow and Simran Baidwan.
