HBO and its streaming service HBO Max smashed past Netflix to once again lead the number of Emmy nominations, thanks to hauls from shows including The Penguin, The White Lotus and The Last of Us.
The Warner Bros. Discovery network scored 142 Emmy nominations, compared to 121 for Netflix.
This marks the most Emmy nominations HBO has ever received in a single year, beating its previous total of 137 in 2019. Last year, it received 91 and was behind Netflix and FX.
It was helped in large part by major hauls from The Penguin, which landed 24 nominations – the second most of the year behind Apple’s Severance, which got 27, The White Lotus, which checked in with 23, and The Last Of Us, which got 16. Hacks helped with 14 nominations and The Pitt looked after 13 nominations.
Netflix won’t be unhappy, however, beating its 107 nominations from last year to put it in second place, thanks to big mornings for Adolescence, which got 13, 11 noms for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and 10 for Black Mirror.
Apple also had a great morning, scoring 78 nominations thanks to 27 noms for Severance and 23 noms for The Studio.
