Reports say Manchester United are “confident” in signing RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesco for one important reason in Newcastle United’s interests.
So far, Man Utd has completed three summer signings as he landed Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon.
United wasted a lot of time pursuing Mbeumo as they initially refused to meet Brentford’s demands, but ultimately agreed to a potential overall package of £701 million.
Since landing Mbeumo, Red Devils have turned their attention to the landing of new strikers as they will need upgrades to Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee after scoring seven Premier League goals in 2024/25.
Unfortunately for United, they have already missed out on some targets as they were unable to sign Liam Dellup and Victor Gyoker.
These failures and their limited funding have revealed that Man Utd has turned into an alternative, and Athletic has “decreased” the search for Sesko and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

The report has been confirmed:
“Manchester United narrowed its search for strikers down to two names: Ollie Watkins and Benjamin Sesco.
“They were exploring a contract with Chelsea striker Nicholas Jackson, but they had to rule out the move due to costs. United had been held back from Sesco for the necessary finances, but discussions were held to establish some details about the potential move. The same thing happened with the Watkins deal.”
Man UTD’s move for the two players is complicated by Newcastle’s interest, but ESPN’s report offers the latest information on INEOS’s “two ‘preferred’ striker targets.

Man Utd reportedly determined that Sesko and Watkins were the “most viable” targets, but there are concerns that “they are considered banned for the potential costs of Aston Villa and RB Leipzig ratings, respectively.”
Nevertheless, the Red Devils are confident in landing Sesco.
Regarding Watkins, the report adds:
Meanwhile, Villa claims that Watkins is trying not to leave. However, United believes that the correct offer could tempt them to say goodbye to the 29-year-old, 29, who was the subject of a bid from Arsenal in January.
“United is unlikely to match the £60 million ($80 million) offer filed by Arsenal six months ago, bringing the English man closer to £45 million instead.”
