EXCLUSIVE: Michael Peña (End of Watch) has been tapped for a role alongside Chris Hemsworth and Lily James in Subversion, the new submarine-themed action film from Amazon MGM Studios, Deadline has learned.
Details as to the role Peña is playing are being kept at the bottom of the ocean. The film follows a once-promising naval commander (Hemsworth) who is blackmailed by a cartel-like organization into piloting a dangerous submarine carrying illegal cargo across international waters. Thrust into a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, with a Coast Guard officer (James) in hot pursuit, he must outmaneuver blockades and navigate perilous threats both inside and outside the submarine.
Patrick Vollrath (7500) is directing the film from a script by Andrew Ferguson. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing, with executive producers Stephen Shafer and Greg Cohen for di Bonaventura Pictures.
Peña will next be seen opposite Sarah Snook in the series All Her Fault, an adaptation of the novel by Andrea Mara that premieres on Peacock later this year. Known for roles in A Million Miles Away, End of Watch, American Hustle, and The Martian, he’ll also soon be seen starring opposite Sam Rockwell in Gore Verbinski’s action-adventure flick Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die. He is represented by CAA, Entertainment 360, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.
