Lyle Menendez, 28, married model and salon receptionist Anna Erixon on July 2, 1996, the day he and his brother Eric Menendez were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of double murder of his parents Jose and Kitty Menendez in 1989.
Anna began writing letters to Lyle at her first trial in 1993. His first trial ended with a Mistry and moved to California the following year to be near him. According to the Los Angeles Times, she became a trustworthy figure in a retrial that began in 1995 and was convicted in March 1996.
They were unable to make a direct vow, but Lyle instead plunged over the speaker’s phone, the groom’s custody and the bride of defense attorney Leslie Abramson.
He appears to have hoped to marry Anna in person after learning where he was going.
“We have a marriage process,” California corrections facility spokesman Jack Pitco told the LA Times after Lyle and Eric were ordered to separate the prisons in September 1996. “There’s a waiting list… but I don’t know why he couldn’t get married if he followed all the rules.”
Anna filed for divorce in 2001, according to multiple reports from the time. She allegedly discovered that Lyle was exchanging letters with other women.
