EXCLUSIVE: Mason Dye (Stranger Things) and KiKi Layne (The Old Guard 2) are set as series regulars in The Boys‘ upcoming prequel Vought Rising for Prime Video. They join stars Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash as well as other previously announced regulars, Will Hochman, Elizabeth Posey, Jorden Myrie, Nicolò Pasetti, Ricky Staffieri and Brian J. Smith.
Vought Rising is “a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical maneuvers of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought,” Kripke and Grellong said when the series was ordered last summer.
Ackles and Cash will reprise their characters from The Boys, Soldier Boy and Stormfront, respectively. Details on the other roles are being kept under wraps. Dye is rumored to be playing a junkie who was former combat pilot; Layne is thought to be playing a Harlem housewife with ambitions. Production is set to begin later this month.
The Boys‘ executive producer Paul Grellong is set as executive producer and showrunner of the hourlong drama offshoot from franchise developer Eric Kripke.
Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Ori Marmur, Pavun Shetty, Ken Levin, Jason Netter, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, Michaela Starr and Jim Barnes also executive produce. Cash and Ackles serve as producers. Vought Rising is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with Kripke Enterprises, Point Grey Pictures and Original Film.
Known for his role as Garrett on MTV’s Teen Wolf, Dye more recently portrayed antagonist Jason Carver in Season 4 of Netflix’s Stranger Things. He also starred in Lifetime’s Flowers in the Attic, opposite Kiernan Shipka, and appeared on Lifetime’s My Stepdaughter, Stalker’s Prey and The Wrong Son. His film work includes Natural Selection, Vanished – Left Behind: Next Generation and Truth or Dare. He’s repped by CESD, Industry Entertainment, Amplified, and attorney Chad Christopher.
Layne had her breakout role in Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk. She went on to star opposite Charlize Theron in The Guard and most recently reprised her role as Nile in The Old Guard 2 alongside Theron and Uma Thurman. Her other film credits include HBO’s Native Son, Luca Guadagnino’s short film The Staggering Girl, Coming 2 America and Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling. She’s repped by CAA, and Anonymous Content.
