EXCLUSIVE: Jack Champion (Avatar franchise) has come aboard for a role in Don’t Say Good Luck, the new Netflix comedy from filmmaker Julia Hart (Miss Stevens), sources tell Deadline.
Netflix declined to comment, and character details are under wraps. Champion’s castmates include Melanie Lynskey, Max Greenfield, Stephanie Beatriz, Sunny Sandler, Bebe Neuwirth, and Steve Buscemi.
Written by Laura Hankin, Hart & Jordan Horowitz, the film follows Sophie Birenbaum (Sandler), who is ready for the spotlight as the lead in her high school musical — until suddenly she’s living with even more drama at home than on the stage.
Horowitz is producing for Original Headquarters, alongside Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger for Range, and Happy Madison. Michael Roiff and Barry Weissler are serving as executive producers.
Best known for his performance as Spider in Avatar: The Way of Water, a role he’ll reprise in the upcoming Avatar: Fire and Ash, Champion is a rising actor also known for turns in films like Scream VI, Freaky Tales, and Everything’s Going to Be Great. He’ll next be seen starring opposite Dave Bautista in Trap House, an action thriller from director Michael Dowse that’s slated for release on November 14.
Champion is represented by UTA, Amplified, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.
