EXCLUSIVE: Ramón Rodríguez has entered into a new multi-year first-look deal with 20th Television.
Under the deal, Rodríguez will develop and produce television series across broadcast, cable, and streaming, focusing on projects for Disney Entertainment Television platforms.
The deal follows the success of Will Trent on ABC and Hulu, which Rodríguez both stars in and executive produces. He made his directorial debut with the Season 3 premiere episode “I’m a Guest Here” in January, for which he received an Astra TV Award for Directing in a Drama Series.
Based on Karin Slaughter’s New York Times bestselling “Will Trent” book series, Special Agent Will Trent (Rodríguez) of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was abandoned at birth and endured a harsh coming-of-age in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. Now, he uses his unique point of view in the pursuit of justice and has the highest clearance rate in the GBI.
The series also stars Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood, and Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner.
Rodríguez is slated to direct additional episodes of the upcoming fourth season, with production set to begin in August.
“Ramón is a very talented storyteller, possessing deeply creative instincts, intelligence and curiosity. He elevates Will Trent both in front of and behind the camera, bringing authenticity, heart and leadership to all aspects of production, and we are so excited to enter this next creative chapter with him,” shared Karey Burke, President of 20th Television.
Since its debut in January 2022, Will Trent, which was recently Emmy-nominated for Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming, has continued to grow its multi-platform audience year over year, becoming a top-rated network drama on ABC and Hulu. The series grew during its record-breaking third season, outperforming the show’s previous season average, the network touts. The show surpassed 10 million total viewers after 35 days of multi-platform viewing and finished the broadcast season in the top 10 shows among total viewers in Nielsen competitive cross-platform rankings.
“I’m thrilled to expand my partnership with 20th Television through Altura Productions. As an executive producer on Will Trent, I’ve seen the studio’s deep commitment to authentic, character-driven storytelling — a driving force behind the show’s success and my creative journey. With Altura, I look forward to building on that foundation, pushing boundaries, and delivering stories that resonate,” said Rodríguez.
He added, “Deeply grateful to Eric Schrier, Karey Burke, Carolyn Cassidy, Jane Francis and the teams at 20th, Simran Sethi at ABC, and Disney — and to Dana Walden and Craig Erwich, whose early and ongoing support has meant the world. It’s an honor to call 20th TV our home, and I’m excited for this partnership and all that lies ahead.”
Rodríguez is repped by UTA and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
