Reba McEntire didn’t need flashy words to describe his bond with Brandon Blackstock.
Because when she married her father, Narbell Blackstock in 1989, Brandon and his brothers, Shashidi Blackstock and Shauna Blackstock, became a family.
“I don’t think of myself as a stepchild of Brandon, Shashidi or Shauna,” the singer told Boots in 2010.
And recently their family, including Leba and Narbell’s son Shelby Blackstock, suffered tragic losses when Brandon died at the age of 48.
“Brandon has bravely fought cancer for over three years,” a family member told NBC News in a statement on August 7th. “He died peacefully and surrounded by his family.”
During Brandon’s life, Reba made him and his brother love.
“I’m so proud of all the kids. Shauna, Brandon, Shassidy, Shelby!” The Grammy Award winner tweeted in 2012.
And Leba was proud to welcome Kelly Clarkson into his family when he married Brandon in 2013.
“I think it’s going to be pretty pretty,” the actress told Katie Courick that year about having an American Idol winner as her stepdaughter. “We’ve been friends for years. The first time we met Kelly was in 2002 when we asked her to sing along with her at the American Idol finale. Then we toured together.
