Donald Trump continued to rage at media figures overnight, this time former New York Times columnist Paul Krugman.
Trump wrote on Truth Social late Sunday, “Paul Krugman of the New York Times has been predicting Doom and Gloom ever since my great election success in 2016. In other words, he has been wrong for YEARS, as ALL markets have been hitting new HIGHS, and are now higher than ever before. People stayed out of the ‘BEST MARKET IN HISTOY’ [sic] because of this Trump Deranged BUM. Sue them!”
Krugman left The New York Times late last year, but now writes a daily column on Substack. He’s been especially hard-hitting on Trump’s tariffs and the president’s trade deals, while warning of stagflation.
In his most recent column, posted on Monday morning, Krugman mocked Trump’s effort to counter a recent dismal jobs report by holding a presentation in the Oval Office last with economist Stephen Moore, with a chart that labeled “median income” and “medium income.” Moore, Krugman wrote, “may be the last person on the planet you’d trust to tell you the economic truth.” Moore’s figures, which showed a recent rise in median income with figures that were quickly challenged.
“I don’t mean that Moore is extremely right-wing, although of course he is,” Krugman wrote. “I don’t even mean that he’s a dishonest hack, although again of course he is. I mean that even among dishonest right-wing hacks Moore stands out for his pathological inability to get numbers and facts right.”
As for Trump’s attack on him, Krugman wrote, Now this is flattering: Last night Donald Trump called me a ‘Deranged BUM.’ Gonna add it to my profile.”
