Fabian Hurzeler claims there is no “fear” to lose a key player with Carlos Bereva.
Manchester United reportedly only told the 21-year-old had a £155 million price tag on his head, but the Old Trafford Club is said to be pondering in its second bid.
If Baleba leaves, he is the latest in the long line of Brighton players to be sold for big profits, and Seagulls boss Hurzeler said he is interested in losing key members of his team.
“There’s no chance, I don’t feel any fear,” Hazeler told the BBC.
“I’m not afraid of anything I can do because all we can do is the best version we can do every day and work as hard as we can.
“We really need to focus on us because it is all the other things that we can’t influence.
“It’s true, we can’t spend the money like a large team, but one of our greatest values is unity. And if you’re together, I’m sure we can compete with a big team if we try to push the boundaries and increase the boundaries.”
To Brighton’s achievement, they survived losing a big player before. Moises Kayseko, Mark Kukulera, Ben White and Alexis Mac Alistair all went ahead, with the club finishing 11th or higher since 2022.
For these reasons, Hurzeler was sure his team could compete this season, even if he lost the recent Pedro to Chelsea for £60m.
“It’s not easy, but last season we proved to be a very competitive team,” said the league’s youngest manager.
