Newcastle United reportedly rekindled interest in Paris Saint-Germain forward Goncaro Ramos as Alexander Isaac continues to link with Liverpool.
PSG paid Ramos 65 million euros to Benfica, but Portugal International is struggling to become a regular starter for the club.
Luis Enrique supported Osmane Dembele as his centre forward, and had the winger preferred by Desire, Bradley Barkola and Kvicha Kvaratzkeria.
Ramos often left the bench at Palien and had a great effect on Wednesday night, earning the final gasp equalizer in the UEFA Super Cup with Tottenham.
Newcastle has been linked to the 24-year-old in the past, and was able to make the move for him in the final weeks of the summer transfer window, amid Liverpool’s interest in ISAK.
Details: Liverpool has been accused of “rog arrogance” over pursuit of Alexander Isaac
The Swedish striker is pushing to join the Premier League champions.
Newcastle quickly declined to evaluate the Reds’ offer, while no alternative striker had been signed.
Eddie Howe has not yet signed new strikers, and did not land Benjamin Sesco and Hugo Ekitique, who joined Manchester United and Liverpool, respectively.
Now, according to a report in the Daily Mail, Ramos said he’s “returned to the agenda” at St. James Park as the club’s search for strikers became desperate.
Ramos became a “live option” for the Jordies, who made the “first enquiry” earlier this month, but only for a move that is deemed “impossible.”
With a rare boost, “intermediaries indicate that trade is possible,” PSG “keeps in mind” rather than lending out the former Benfica striker.
He emphasizes that Newcastle’s goal is to sign two strikers and help Isaac fill the gap left behind. Brentford’s Yoan Wissa is a serious target and someone the club has been trying to sign for weeks.
In 87 appearances for PSG, Ramos scored 34 goals and eight assists.
Newcastle season kicks off to Aston Villa on Saturday afternoons. Naturally, ISAK is not involved.
Coach Hau said Friday:
“We have to focus on who is here and make the most of them. The players know that he is not here. The focus is on each player playing with the best abilities.
“I’ve had a great relationship with him. Part of my job is important. I have to work closely with the players to improve them, help them, and sometimes comfort them. There are so many different emotions that players experience.
“He knows that. He’s very intelligent and he knows he wouldn’t have succeeded without Newcastle. This is another moment and we work together.
“I want him to play. I want him to train. I had those conversations (with ISAK), but the details of them remain private.
“There’s no change in the situation. My focus is on the transfer front in terms of training, Aston Villa and getting players. It’s all consuming for me. Alex’s situation hasn’t changed for a while.
