KJ APA shares the map that led to him being awarded an important title in the Samoan community.
The Riverdale alumni detailed how he became the chief of Samoa in Moretaa, in the village of New Zealand, revealing that tradition dates back to generations.
“The title my dad has is a very old title that we have in our family called Tupa’i,” explained KJ during his appearance on August 13th’s Today Show. “He won the title. I think it was about five years, six years ago. And his father had it, so it was given to him after his father passed away.”
So, the 28-year-old was thrilled to be offered the privilege of continuing his “beautiful tradition” after being given the title of Savae Chief at the 2022 ceremony. As he said, “I am honored to receive it from my village.”
However, KJ, who shares his son Sasha Vai Kennety Apa, 4, with former Clara Berry, admitted that his acting career has held some precedent in carrying out his responsibilities as chief of the Moata community.
