EXCLUSIVE: In a competitive situation, Hulu has landed for development The Summer Of Songbirds, a drama series inspired by the bestselling novel by Kristy Woodson Harvey. The project hails from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and 20th Television.
Adapted by Brennan Peters (The Power), The Summer of Songbirds is a story about the power of forged family — the family we choose, the family we fight to keep, again and again. It revolves around three girlfriends and their unbreakable bond forged in their childhood summers spent in North Carolina. Now in their 30s, each grappling with the harsh realities of adulthood, they’re forced to confront secrets and betrayals from both the past and present that threaten to unravel their chosen family.
Peters executive produces alongside Harvey and Kaplan. Kapital’s Tiffany Przybyla Wong and Jaiden Kaplan co-executive produce.
In addition to serving as co-producer on Prime Video’s The Power, Peters staffed on Season 2 of Facebook’s Sacred Lies. In features, she has horror comedy Bait in the works with Gloria Sanchez producing and Lisa Bruhlmann attached to direct. Her original musical Delilah is in development with the band Delta Rae composing. Peters is repped by UTA and Artists First as well as Paradigm for Theater.
Harvey’s novels also include Beach House Rules, A Happier Life and The Peachtree Bluff Series, with several of them getting optioned for film and TV and landing on lists like GMA’s Buzz Pick, Southern Living’s Most Anticipated Reads, Katie Couric’s Featured Books, and Joanna Garcia Swisher’s The Happy Place Read. She is repped by CAA and Rain.
