EXCLUSIVE: Proximity Media has named veteran marketing executive Terra Potts Chief as Marketing & Operations Officer.
In the newly-created executive leadership role, Potts will oversee all marketing and communications across the company’s film, television, unscripted, and audio divisions. She will also oversee driving operational efficiencies, resource planning, and organizational development. Potts will report to Proximity founders Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian. Her appointment is effective immediately.
Potts has been a consultant to Proximity for the past year on a number of high-profile projects, including Sinners, which earned $365 million at the global box office, Marvel/Disney+’s Ironheart and Eyes of Wakanda, as well as the NatGeo docuseries Hurricane Katrina: A Race Against Time.
Prior, Potts spent more than a decade at Warner Bros. Pictures, where she was ultimately elevated to EVP of Worldwide Marketing. She began working with Proximity’s founders there on Coogler’s 2015 Creed which grossed $173M worldwide box office and netted an Academy Award nomination for Sylvester Stallone. Potts reunited with the Proximity team on Judas and the Black Messiah in 2021, which earned six Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, with Daniel Kaluuya and H.E.R., D’Mile and Tiara Thomas taking home awards for Best Actor and Best Original Song, respectively, followed by Space Jam: A New Legacy.

We’re thrilled to now make her position official on our senior leadership team.”
Other campaigns Potts worked on at Warner Bros include Crazy Rich Asians, and 42, the Conjuring Universe, several DC properties and Baz Luhrmann’s Oscar nominated Elvis.
Potts began her career with awards strategist Lisa Taback, leading a campaign that yielded 11 Oscar nominations for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button; and served on the team that launched Tyler Perry’s Medea and James Wan’s Saw franchises during her tenure at Lionsgate. She started her career at Murray Weisman & Associates, and got her first taste of the power of cinema and advocacy working with the veteran awards consultant on the Oscar-winning campaign for Crash and the critically acclaimed documentary Fahrenheit 911.
