WASHINGTON (AP) – The FBI is looking for a Maryland home John Boltonwho served in President Donald Trump’s first administration as national security adviser, but later became critical of the president as part of an investigation into the handling of confidential documents, a person familiar with the matter said Friday.
The person was not permitted to discuss the investigation by name and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. Bolton is not in custody and has not been charged with a crime, people said.
Messages left with Bolton and a White House spokesman were not immediately returned. The lawyer representing Bolton did not immediately comment Friday.
Bolton served as Trump’s third national security adviser for 17 months, clashing with him through Iran, Afghanistan and North Korea. He faced scrutiny during the first Trump administration over a book he wrote about his time in the government that authorities allegedly revealed classified information, but in 2021 the Justice Department waived the lawsuit and stopped investigating another large ju court.
Trump, a Republican, was revoked on his first day of the year Security Clearance Of more than four dozen former information staff, including Bolton. Bolton was also one of a trio of former Trump officials whose security details were cancelled by Trump earlier this year.
