Aaliyah’s story barely began before it came out of her hands.
But here, at age 22, she’s begun her impact on pop culture 24 years after her untimely death in a plane crash.
“Sometimes, when it’s my mom and I kick it, I say, ‘I’m 22, and I’ve done so much,'” she told E! News from a few months before she passed away on August 25th, 2001. “I know I have to be grateful at every moment.”
Aaliyah’s debut studio album in 1994, originated from numbers, selling over 6 million copies worldwide and receiving double platinum certification, backed by the top 10 singles “Bock & Fourth” and “Your Best (You Are Love).”
The Brooklyn-born Detroit breeding teen is already a show business veteran, singing at the wedding at 8am and performing on Star Search alongside Gladys Knight.
“I’m still in high school,” Aaliyah, in an interview with the New York Morning Show, sparkled about her straight A report card while promoting her first performance at the legendary Apollologator.
