EXCLUSIVE: Mireille Enos (The Killing, For All Mankind) is joining American Hostage in a series regular role.
Set in the 1970s, the psychological thriller greenlit by MGM+ earlier this year tells the true story of Fred Heckman (Jon Hamm), an Indianapolis radio reporter who is thrust into the middle of a life-or-death crisis when hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis demands to be interviewed on his popular program.
Enos will play Barbara, the wife of Fred who is described as “formidable in her own right, intelligent and perceptive. Throughout the crisis, her burgeoning friendship with the hostage’s wife, challenges Barb’s usual sense of propriety and self-containment. Barbara has lived with a newsman long enough to know that breaking news trumps all else, but this story is different, revealing things about Fred, their private lives, and assumptions about herself that she’s never questioned before.”
The anthology series is co-created and executive produced by Shawn Ryan (The Night Agent, S.W.A.T.) and Eileen Myers (Big Love, Mad Dogs) and is from Sony Pictures Television. The eight-episode first installment is based on the first season of the scripted podcast of the same name. Hamm is reprising the role he voiced on the podcast.
In addition to starring, Hamm executive produces alongside Ryan, Myers, Connie Tavel, Sharon Hoffman and Ryan’s MiddKid Productions partner, Marney Hochman. Shawn Christensen and Gabriel Mason of Criminal Content, the company behind the American Hostage podcast, also serve as executive producers. Filming is slated to start in Winnipeg, Canada this fall.
Enos is repped by Gersh, Howard Green Entertainment and GGSSC.
